Beautifully secluded along the shores of Lake Minnetonka, this home called for an addition and full remodel that could carry it into the next chapter without losing what made it special in the first place — a blend of historic Spanish Revival architecture with the comforts of modern lakeside living.

The stucco exterior, terracotta tile roof, and arched openings that give the home its character all had to be preserved and, in places, rebuilt — once we opened up the walls, we found rot that needed to be addressed before anything else could move forward. From there, the real challenge was matching historical materials and details with what’s available today, all while keeping the project within a realistic budget. All of the tile throughout the home was handmade and sourced from California to stay true to the home’s original Spanish Revival character, and new Loewen windows were selected to match the look of the original steel windows throughout. The great room itself stayed untouched by the renovation, preserved in its original condition as a nod to the home’s history.

For the interiors, Robb Whittlef incorporated multiple “found” pieces into the new cabinetry scheme — some kept fully intact, others reworked to fit within the updated layout, giving the home a sense of continuity between what was original and what’s new.

The result is a home that still feels like the original Casco Point residence at first glance, refreshed room by room — kitchen, sunroom, and living spaces — so it works for how the family actually lives today, without sacrificing the character that made it worth preserving.
