Building a custom home is one of the biggest decisions a homeowner will make — and also one of the most exciting. But it can feel like a black box if you don’t know what’s actually involved. How long does it take? When do you pick finishes? Who’s actually managing the day-to-day once the crew is on site?

At JN Built, we’ve refined our process since 2010 around one core belief: a great home starts with a great relationship. Here’s what that looks like in practice, from our first conversation to the day we hand you the keys.
1. Discovery & Relationship Building
Every project starts with a conversation, not a contract. We meet with you — at your site or ours — to understand your vision, your lifestyle, your budget, and your timeline. This is where we get to know each other and where we’re upfront about what’s possible before anything gets drawn.
What happens here:
- Initial consultation at your site or our office
- Discussion of goals, must-haves, and budget range
- Introduction to our team and how we work
- A clear outline of next steps
2. Planning & Design
Once we understand your vision, we get to work turning it into a real, buildable plan. We collaborate with architects and designers to develop something that reflects how you actually want to live — not just how a house looks on paper. This is where floor plans, finishes, materials, budget, and schedule all get locked down. We’d rather spend extra time here than uncover surprises once construction starts.
What happens here:
- Architectural and design collaboration
- Material and finish selections
- Detailed budget and timeline development
- Final plan approval before breaking ground
3. Construction
This is where the vision becomes real. Our team manages every detail — from site work and framing to the finest finish carpentry. Communication doesn’t stop once construction begins: you’ll have a dedicated point of contact, regular updates, and the flexibility to make informed decisions as the project comes together.
What happens here:
- Dedicated project management and on-site supervision
- Regular progress updates and site walkthroughs
- Quality craftsmanship at every stage, big or small
- Proactive communication if anything needs to shift
4. Completion & Beyond
A finished home isn’t the end of our relationship — it’s the start of you living in it. Before we call a project complete, we walk the entire home with you and address every final detail. And our commitment doesn’t stop at move-in; we’re here to answer questions and make sure your home continues to serve you well for years to come.
What happens here:
- Final walkthrough and detail punch-list
- Handoff of warranty and home care information
- Ongoing availability for questions after move-in
Every home we build — new or renovated — is a reflection of the people who will live in it. That’s why our process starts and ends with you.
